Engineer
To provide the engineering support necessary to enable the planned operations to take place in accordance with the Contract drawings, specification and Project Execution Plan.
To supervise construction activities on discrete packages or areas of work.
To record all relevant details of the construction process to allow technical, quality, safety, environmental and commercial audits to be completed.
Key Activities
- Ensure that the works are constructed in accordance with the contract drawings, specification and Project Execution Plan
- Manage site dimensional control ensuring that contractors have the facilities for setting out of the works.
- Produce and review construction methods statements ensuring that the works are constructed efficiently and safely
- Plan and programme the section of the works, producing or reviewing construction method statements.
- Assist in the management of costs and budgets, and with the measuring of the works for valuations.
- To be familiar with and apply the procedures and processes detailed in the project Health, Safety and Environmental plans, and to promote a safe working culture.
- Ensuring that the section of work are undertaken safely and in accordance with Health, Safety &Environmental legislation and the site HS&E plans. Prepare and review risk assessments.
- To be responsible for the monitoring, progress reporting and achieving of goals for the work under his/her responsibility.
- Anticipating and resolving problems, in particular related to Engineering issues. Resolving Engineering queries with the design consultants.
- Working with the design consultants to resolve technical problems and queries that arise during the course of the Works.
- Managing construction records, O&M manuals and as built drawings
Technical Excellence
- To be aware of and maintain an understanding of the contract documents, appropriate codes of practice, standards and specifications.
- Keep pace with technology and innovative achievements elsewhere.
- To implement the procedures detailed in the project quality plans and Method statements to ensure finished product is compliant with the contract documents
- To correctly interpret information from drawings and specifications and transfer this to the site operatives and sub-contractors
- To be fully conversant with current surveying equipment, its uses and its interface with suitable software to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness of delivery.
- Understand and use the knowledge base within the company. Seek information and advice from Engineering Department when appropriate.
Problem Solving
- To anticipate and resolve technical ambiguities/ problems, in particular related to Engineering issues. Resolving Engineering queries with the design consultants.
- Assess problems and use all the resources available to develop solutions.
- Communicate problems upward and request support when necessary.
People Management
- Able to delegate responsibility to the lowest appropriate level to ensure that everyone contributes to their fullest.
- To be aware of the role of all of the team members and ensure they fully understand their responsibilities/job descriptions and are fully aware of their project role.
- Encourage the team to improve and develop their skills, motivating, monitoring and developing the Engineers under his/her control.
- Manage relationships between colleagues and suppliers to ensure that good working relationships improve productivity
- Provide guidance and monitor individual engineer's training and achievement of objectives
